So what is Spamusement? Well, it's a site owned by this one guy who, when a spam subject line inspires him, makes a picture for it. There's also a forum of people who do the same kind of thing. I am a recent addition to those people.

So, I'm going to be uploading a number of these things to Scraps -- most, but not all. Basically, ones I completely drew. They aren't really high quality, nor were they intended to be. They're also going to be in alphabetical rather than chronological order for a while.

Something hit me as I was reading this passage earlier.

Let me bring you up to speed, if you're not already reading. Eliyahu (Elijah) has had the encounter where he showed Ba`al and Asherah, the false gods whose prophets were in the service of the king and queen of Israel at the time, to be nothing more than fakes. Said prophets were executed, and after a bit with a cloud (interesting in itself, but not to this point), he's outrunning the king's horses.

But then comes an order from Izevel (Jezebel), and he takes off from Yizr`e'lah (Jezreel) to B'er Sheva (Beersheba), leaves his servant, and heads into the wilderness. And there we find him under a rotem (broom tree?), asking for his life to be taken by YHWH.

We're getting there, okay?

And then he sleeps. He is awakened by a mal'ak (angel), who touches him and says, "Arise and eat."

6 Then he looked, and there by his head was a cake baked on coals, and a jar of water. So he ate and drank, and lay down again.

Having been told to arise and eat, he eats, drinks... and lies down again. So? Check this out:

7 And the mal'ak YHWH came back the second time, and touched him, and said, "Arise and eat, because the journey is too great for you." So he arose, and ate and drank; and he went in the strength of that food forty days and forty nights as far as Chorev (Horeb), the mountain of Elohim (God).

There. It explicitly says that he arose that time, and that's when he got the benefit of the food; when he was fully compliant.

Okay, I'm done now.
